We are Hist
Our mission is to make deep strategy games for people who love history.
Manifesto
Games can be both fun and historically accurate
Studios have traditionally believed that historical realism must be sacrificed in order to make fun games. We don’t believe that. We believe, in fact, that making games more historically authentic also makes them more fun.
We love systems
Our main genres are Strategy and Simulation. We love games with deep systems and high replayability. Some people call these “spreadsheet simulators”, we call them “great fun”.
We empower you to tell your own story
Premade stories are not for us. We like to tell our own stories by interacting with the game’s systems. As such, our games offer you tools to tell your own stories. The narrative emerges from the mechanics.
Generous DLC policy
Look, we haven’t even released a Hist game yet, so we don’t know if we will ever release DLC (downloadable content). But if we do, we don’t want you to feel like you need DLC in order to have a complete experience. Newcomers shouldn’t get a skeleton of a game. So the vast majority of features and content will come with free updates, and buying DLC will be an optional way to support the devs. You should get DLC because you want to support future development and show your appreciation, not because of a paywall that blocks you out of mechanics and content. Any DLC will be light on extra content, with the bulk of it coming as a free update for everyone.
Goal: Overwhelmingly Positive reviews
We want to make the first grand strategy game with Overwhelmingly Positive reviews on Steam. Well, depending on what you consider a GSG, this has already been done. Regardless, that is our goal. We don’t know if we’ll make it with our first game, but we’ll try our best! The requirements are: at least 500 reviews and a 95%+ positive rating. So, if you want to help us reach this goal, do leave a positive review once the game is out! We’ll do our best to earn your positive review by making a great game.
We are creating an archive
We want to preserve our games and their development process for future generations. As lovers of history, we understand the importance of primary sources for historians. Our aim is to create the most complete and interesting digital archive that a games company has ever created for its material. It includes images, diaries, videos and much more. We are looking for partners to help us preserve this for centuries to come. Reach out if you’re an archivist or believe in this mission.
The Team

Lucas Molina is the founder of Hist and currently its only team member. That’s me, so I’ll switch to “I” because it’s awkward to talk in third person. I’m an indie game developer and generalist with 15+ years of experience making games. I taught myself art, code, music and everything else related to game development. I studied history in university and also got a master’s degree in history. I don’t know why I love history and games so much, but I do. It’s just who I am.
I’m happy to meet like-minded people. If you believe you have what it takes, please do reach out to me.
I’m not in a hurry to expand the team, and it might never happen. Our mission and values are far more important than studio size and sales numbers. Sure, we want to serve our players to the best of our ability, but we will not sacrifice our mission or our values to do so.
I use “we” here when speaking for Hist as a company, but it’s just me :)
Core Values
1. Player experience is our first, second, and third priority
We want to create great experiences for our players. Everything else exists to serve that purpose.
2. Open to the community
We develop with our players. Feedback, playtests, discussions, all of it. We do everything we can to be open to players and the community as a whole.
3. Great to each other
We strive to treat each other – and ourselves – excellently. This means clear and open communication, respect, appreciation and being willing to listen to and understand each other.
4. Constant improvement
We’re always seeking feedback and trying to improve. We don’t believe we’re ever done learning.
5. Keep up the PPACE
We have our own PPACE. The acronym stands for: Playfulness, Passion, Aptitude, Courage and Empathy. These are the qualities we look to cultivate within ourselves.
